Preschool Math:
Hat Trick
Today's
Snack: Can
you shake your head so hard that you can shake a hat off it? Well, let's make
shakes, then! In a blender, put two cups of low-fat milk, 3 scoops of vanilla
ice cream and a squeeze of chocolate sauce. Blend on medium-high speed until
smooth. For a healthier shake, you can put 1 C. of nonfat fruit yogurt, 1 C. of
your favorite fruit juice, and 1 C. of ice cubes, and blend. Mmmmmmm!

Supplies:
Ten different hats
Take turns acting out this silly
math rhyme. It will teach you subtraction skills! This is fun to do with a
partner, and lots of fun to have a mirror on hand.
Put the 10 hats out in front of you
on a desk or table.
Say out loud:
Pick
a funny hat for me to wear,
One that's so silly, people will stare.
Your partner can choose a hat for
you.
Then you can say:
Take
another hat to put on my head,
One that's so funny, my face will be red.
Keep adding hats until all 10 are on
your head.
Then make up a subtraction poem:
Now
subtract all but six.
Did you take away four? You did the fix!
Replace all 10 hats on the table or
desk. Now it's your partner's turn to balance the 10 hats, and make up a
subtraction poem to have some of them taken away.
